After purchasing a faulty transmission from AutoZone, they refuse to uphold the warranty until I (a) pay to have the transmission removed, (b) bring it to the store, and (c) let them inspect the part to prove it was truely a part problem. While initially this may sound somewhat reasonable, after thinking about the criteria, I can't help but feel like they're trying to weasel their way out of their responsibility.

I did everything they said for me to do when I ordered it. I took it to a reliable mechanic at a real shop...not someone's backyard. I had it professionally installed. Why should I have to pay labor to have the part removed and possibly never be reimbursed for the part when I have already paid for it once.

If it were a functional part, it wouldn't have to be removed. They have to TEST it??? Seriously, I'm sure mechanics aren't standing around thinking of ways to purposefully screw the parts stores over in between transmission jobs and reputable businesses don't become such by utilizing poor practices.

Shame on AutoZone. I'll pay the extra $500 next time and just order from the dealership doing the install.

Monetary Loss: $2600.

The shop doing the repair would have been stuck with the same transmission and warranty issues if they had gotten from AZ as well, My story: I am a reputable repair shop and I bought one of their diesel engines for our local hospitals ambulance service (AZ offered me the lowest price with the best warranty) we installed the engine and it had nothing but problems for an entire year, our last straw was when it began to smoke... we called them in warranty time and they refused to warranty it even though we had all the paper work proving warranty. Since we had warrantied the engine for the amount of time given us by AZ we had to warranty it to the hospital which meant thousands out of our pocket..5 years later I did get my money back from them but only for the engine, days before it was scheduled for jury trial we settled.
